TOM SCHRAPPS

In memory of Reilly Patrick Schrapps

Tom lost his son, Reilly, in July 2022.

He wanted to tell his story in hopes of reaching even one parent with the information that could help prevent their story from becoming the next tragedy.

Reilly Patrick Schrapps
November 6, 1997 - July 30, 2022

Reilly Patrick Schrapps was born on November 6, 1997 and left us all too soon on July 30, 2022. Reilly was a tremendous loving young man who was loved by all that came to know him as he had a smile that would light up every room that he entered.

Reilly was the second son born to Tom and Shauna Schrapps. Kelly, his oldest brother was his very best and closest friend and they spent many weekends floating the Big Hole River, camping at Canyon Ferry, and vacationing at Flathead Lake with their family. Reilly also had two step siblings Amber and Kyle Freebourn who he also loved very much and would spend countless hours with them enjoying the Montana Outdoors.

Reilly was extremely blessed having two new families and he was very loyal and he truly loved his families. Shauna and Tom separated in 2009 and remained the greatest of friends and Tom remarried Stacie Kelly in 2011 and Shauna is remarrying Dave Schatzka who she has been with for the past five years. Both Dave and Stacie were exceptional loving step-parents to Reilly.

Reilly was an awesome fisherman always floating the Big Hole River with his dad and brother Kelly and hunting with Kelly and step-brother Kyle. Reilly was blessed to have done so much with his dad in the great outdoors of Montana as well as that wonderful family trip to Cabo and especially boating at Canyon Ferry with his family. Reilly spent many quality days with his mom going on numerous trips to watch NBA games in Salt Lake City and a special trip to Maui where Reilly slayed the fishing (first, biggest, and most). Reilly spent lots of quality time with his mom especially going to get coffees at Florence Coffee and having great quality time spent together.

Reilly enjoyed his two dogs Mattie, Charlie and cat Feenix and they too will really miss Reilly. Reilly loved to longboard from the top of Main Street in Walkerville all the way to Front Street and was an accomplished artist creating some very unique designs that he would incorporate into his clothing embroidery business. Reilly also had an enormous and unique hat and shoe collection and he also enjoyed cooking some amazing dishes as he was trained by the very best Nana Jean McCaughey as a young boy.

Reilly enjoyed skiing with his friends and family at Discovery and enjoyed listening to great music and he would spend many hours with his closest cousins Ethan McCaughey playing XBox and he would compete with his cousin Connor Schrapps in motocross races.

Reilly has a very large family of aunts and uncles on the McCaughey side (Kevin and Kim McCaughey, Mike McCaughey, Patti and Joe Driscoll, Paul and Andi McCaughey) and on the Schrapps side of the family (Mike and Barb Schrapps, Don and Kathy Schmaing, Tim Schrapps and Leslie O’Dell). Reilly’s living grandparents are Terry and Jean Schrapps, Tom and Helen Kelly, and pseudo grandma Delane Taylor.  Reilly will be missed by all of his very close first cousins (Connor, Matt, Shelby, Ethan, Timmy, Krysee, Megan, Cody, Zack, Katie, Misty, Chelsey, Marcus, Matthew, Mikey, Robby, Stephanie, and JR) who he had great friendships with and all of his loyal high school closest friends. Reilly was preceded in death by his grand-parents Ralph and Jean McCaughey (Nana and Papa), grand-mother Mary Lou Schrapps, and uncles Kiely and Terry Schrapps.
